New Years Resolution: Try the Nomadic Lifestyle

sold surprisedWho thinks living on the road with no permanent home while toting along three boys (homeschooling) and a bunch of horses is a good idea?

The Westfall’s do!

And as of today our house is officially SOLD!

First stop, after considerable packing, is Texas! (…or the looney bin, I will keep you posted on my sanity during this process)

Stacey, An appostrophy before an “s” is for ownership or if it is an abbreviation. There is no appostrophy for a plural as in Westfalls. I just thought you might like to use correct english on your blog and it is a good thing to know if you’ll be home schooling your children.

    • Stacy on January 10, 2014 at 8:56 pm

Good thing they have books for this stuff!

    • cyndi on January 11, 2014 at 3:00 pm

Lee Curtis, it’s Stacy, not. Stacey. The correct spelling is apostrophe. The e in English should be capitalized. If you are going to be the grammar police, please try to have fewer errors than the one you are correcting.

      Welcome to the road!

    • Lesia Lowe on April 18, 2014 at 11:59 pm

How rude Lee!!! ………who cares where the apostrophe is???…….. I don’t…. and by the way…….YOU misspelled APOSTROPHE!!!!

Can you briefly tell us about your other horses going? Do you still have Kernal? I saw you and him at Road to the Horse. Also saw Popcorn there. Love the work you do!

    • Stacy on January 9, 2014 at 9:22 pm

Yikes! Well, Jac is going. Nephew Newt (from the Congress Poem) is going. Lucy, Grace and Hope, all fillies by my previous stallion, Vaquero, are going. Popcorn is going. Lena (the photo in the ocean where I am on Roxy, Jesse is on Lena) is going. Mia, Jac’s older sister is going. I trained Kernal to do mounted shooting (http://youtu.be/wxuvlgbjC4c) but Popcorn and I were a better fit so I sold him to another mounted shooter who loves him. Whew, we are crazy!

In 2002 I rode from San Antonio into the NASA grounds outside Houston on an Appaloosa named Shaman. It took us 25 days. I loved every minute of this slow ride and all the people we met. Camping at parking lots, camping sites, bars, churches and in the best cases at someones farm. We had no trailer, just a an RV that my husband drove a head in the morning finding the best, shortest and safest route along. We would meet up for lunch and dinner. At night we tied Shaman to a picket line and we slept in the RV.
Even though I rode so slow it still felt way to fast in order to really hang out and get to know all the nice people we met. Nomad life is great and Texas too!

Congratulations on your house sale! Happy trails to the future! If your come through western KS, (you were interested in CO at one time), looks us up! We are have built a new barn and are in process of finishing it out into a bed and breakfast for horses and their peoples! Horse stalls and runs are done, working on the bunk rooms! It all started back in 2006 when I watched that video……..

My husband wanted to do the whole pack up the family and travel around Australia awhile ago and I said that if we did he’d have to buy a converted horse truck as I’m not leaving without the horses (3 of them). Needless to say we are still living at home LOL Logistical nightmare!! Please come to Australia if you get a chance, would love to come to a clinic. Happy New Year “-)

Stacy, would love to see you and your beautiful family while you are in Texas. I would come and see you or would love for you to visit us. Let me know if/how we can make that happen. All the best to you! Ride/right on!!! xo, Barb

    • Stacy on January 1, 2014 at 1:16 pm

Barbra Schulte-you honor me just by writing! I would LOVE to visit…maybe I can take a cutting lesson (shameless asking). I also want to visit the Cowgirl Hall of Fame again. See you soon.

      • Barbra Schulte on January 1, 2014 at 5:35 pm

Awesome! I love shameless asking! Makes things happen and a cutting lesson (or two, or three) is definitely an easy one for me! Would be a blast. I would love to visit with you about what you are doing. Also, I want to visit with you about an idea I have about the Cowgirl Museum and their already existing education program. I was supposed to do a video interview with Pat a few weeks ago but had to cancel. Anyway, let’s visit soon when you have some time on the road. (-: Love your adventure! Barb

Enjoy stammering for the answer to the simple question: What’s your address? After your house is sold and you are traveling down the road, you will have no state-of-residence. Try getting the medical insurance! Welcome to the flying-under-the-radar club! CBreaze Ontheroad FB page

  19. Paula Fratazzi on January 1, 2014 at 12:17 am

You never fail to amaze me!! So glad you are coming to Texas, as I so want to learn more from you and thought, Ohio is too far away!! Hopefully you will LOVE it here and stay awhile!! Safe travels…

  22. Kristina on December 31, 2013 at 10:24 pm

Stacy, I know a family who did exactly what you are doing! Minus some horses and plus a couple of kids. This is their website…they may have some advice for living on the road: learningacrossamerica.com/
P.S. I know you are a Midwest girl, but we would LOVE it if you would pay us a visit in sunny California sometime 🙂
