2024 Resourceful Rider Live: June 20, 21, 22nd

You have been studying with me online; recording yourself, attending the calls, trying on new ideas and techniques,

learning to view your horse, and yourself, from a different perspective. This event is designed to take what you have learned to the next level.

There are two ways to participate:

Demonstration & Interaction

Often times when you are receiving coaching, we can only do what you and your horse are ready for. When you attend an event like this, you can let your mind run wild with questions… And I can turn it into an actual demonstration. This can include round pen demonstrations, liberty demonstrations, ridden demonstrations with multiple horses, whatever it takes to answer your questions.

My goal will be to show the total progression of training, so you can see how it can all flow together.

The whole time will be interactive.

You will have the opportunity to explain your view on what you’re seeing and practice determining why the horse is doing what it’s doing. You will be in a small group setting among your peers. They will ask questions and express views that will help you see things from additional viewpoints. You will study body language of multiple horses you don’t know.

Body language & story

One of the reasons that online coaching works is because I am able to read your horse's body language through the video. Students often have a story about their own horse that changes their interpretation of the body language. By coming and working with me and my horses, you will see my horses without that story. I have horses at different training levels, and I have hot horses and cold horses. This will show you different responses to similar techniques. It will allow you to study body language and will help you become aware of any ‘story’ that you might have that is not helping you when working with your own horse. See the techniques you have learned plus many others…in real time with the ability to ask questions.

Technique & Flow

By showing you all the techniques with one horse, in real time, you will be able to make connections faster. You’ll see the connection between the groundwork and the ridden work, the foundation work and the advanced work. You will pick up things from watching my cues and riding, as well as from watching my horses and their responses. For many students, the connections that will be made will help them see possibilities and problems that are coming with their horses. When you see the possibilities, it’s inspiring.

Prevention & Problem Solving

And when you see possible issues coming, you can get ahead of them and prevent them before they happen.

You may see spots where you have been causing issues that you can now change. You’ll also increase your chances of seeing moments where you could have caused issues…but because you are now aware you’ll be much less likely to.

Q- What is active auditing?

A- An active auditor means you will participate in the group discussions, technique demonstrations, and will be encouraged to ask all of your questions.

You’ll watch multiple horse and rider teams at varying stages. You’ll see their horses' body language. You’ll watch me evaluate the horse and rider. You’ll learn as I assess their skills and give them the techniques they need to move forward.

You will meet my horses (including Lefty and Stormy) and you’ll see first hand how I’ve developed a high degree of understanding with them.

I will use my advanced horses for demonstrations. My horses will make mistakes, and you’ll get to see how I handle it and feel the energy that I bring to the interaction.

Stepping away from your at-home routine, and attending without your horse, is a valuable learning opportunity that you can give yourself. You’ll be surrounded by others on a similar path. You’ll go home with new ideas, new techniques and a new awareness of the dance of energy between horse and rider.

Lunch and snacks are included. Lunch options will be emailed the week before the event.

A- This will be a very small group setting to ensure your questions are answered.

Q- Where is Westfall Horsemanship?

A- We live in a beautiful area on the back side of Mohican State Park. The cell phone service is spotty so PLEASE check your directions before you lose signal.

Q-How should I dress?

A- The weather in Ohio can change by the minute. The event will be held in our indoor arena so we will be sheltered from the sun, wind and rain. Layers are a great idea as well as boots or shoes that you would wear while in the barn.

Q-What are the hours each day?

A- 9am- 5pm on both Thursday and Friday. 9am-2pm on Saturday

Q- Can someone attend with me as an observer (parent, spouse, friend, travel companion, etc.)?

Due to the structure of the event, observers will not be allowed during the teaching hours.

They ARE welcome to stop by and say hi before and after the event each day.

Q-I'm attending as an auditor, will I be handling horses?

A- Although I recommend you come prepared for an auditing experience, depending on your skill level and questions, there are times that I allow auditors to interact with my horses. To qualify for this you must have submitted a video for review in the Resourceful Rider Program. Please wear appropriate shoes to participate.

Q-Can I bring my horse?

A- There are four horse and rider spots available. If you would like to bring your horse, please email me at westfallhorsemanship@gmail.com with June clinic in the subject line.

The price includes:

two and a half days of active auditing, with lunches included
stall, including bedding
individual evaluation: groundwork and riding. This includes noticing habits you may have 'between' exercises that can contribute to challenges
skills assessment, next steps
the ability to practice with live feedback, time to practice again to solidify the ideas

What to expect when attending with your horse:

Arrive June 19th, settle in. Evaluation. Learn new skills, refine current skills.

Evaluation of current groundwork
Evaluation of current riding
Evaluation of stall manners, saddling, mounting, etc.
Riders skills evaluation
- what’s working, the next steps for improvement
- Habit evaluation: what habits do I see that are contributing to the overall challenges you are currently facing.

New skills: Groundwork for emotional control, riding fundamentals, overcoming unique challenges

This is not a cookie cutter clinic. Each horse and rider will be evaluated and challenged accordingly. Within the horse and rider ‘team’ we must always move only as fast as the team can. Sometimes that will require you to slow down for your horse's sake, and sometimes that will mean that you need to speed up to answer your horse's questions. Most frequently, the horse is setting the pace and the rider is learning how to read their horse body language accurately, respond, and shape the behavior.

You will work in short sessions, which is best for your horse, and your brain. This will also create the ‘cycles’ that I frequently teach about. You’ll experience first hand the training cycles I teach about. I will tell you when to take a break and why.

In between, you’ll be taking notes on what you just experienced and you’ll have the opportunity to watch others in varying stages, which will solidify your learning.
