I doubt my horses always see me as loving.

I have no doubt that I love my horses. I wish for them to be happy but to also reach their full potential. I desire this for them because it makes them more valuable in society which offers them the safety of a good home. I may not always be there to protect them but the training they carry with them will be.

But I doubt they always see me as loving. I’m sure at times they consider my ways ‘hard and steep’ as the verse below says. Though I can clearly see the plans I have for my horses, they cannot. They have to choose if they will believe me.

Some choose to follow me easily and others are a life long project. When God looks at me I wonder which he thinks I am?

______________________________________________________________________________________________

“When love beckons to you, follow him,

Though his ways are hard and steep.

And when his wings enfold you yield to him,

Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you.

And when he speaks to you believe him.

Though his voice may shatter your dreams as the north wind lays waste the garden.

For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning. ”

-Kahlil Gibran

As much as I love my horses, I wouldn’t dream of them “loving me” back. All I hope to get from my horses is their trust. If they trust me enough to try to understand my requests, give me their best tries, and follow me despite sometimes their doubts in given situations, it’s all good. I don’t think horses feel much “love” inside, aside from the obivous mare/foal relationship. I think they are more about trust, leadership and companionship. But maybe I’m totally wrong, that’s just they way I suppose they are.If my horses can think/feel when I show up “oh, she’s here, it’s all taken care of”, then I’ve reached my goal. And Stacy, from watching the whole Jac series over and again, I could not locate a single time where you were unfair, not one. So I’m sure your horses, Jac included, would “love” you as much as they equinely can 😉

I really agree with you when it comes to the horses, and most importantly our relationship with God, as He guides us day by day. I also had to see that just as in my own life, doing nothing was no fun, horses also love adventure. My horse is always happiest when he’s going somewhere, especially trails. Sure the couch can be tempting sometimes just like the pasture, but getting up and going makes us wonder why we were sitting about. For my horse, that makes me fitness coach too!

I think the poem is a little iffy (no offense)! What I mean is….
God is Love. God is all light and in Him is no darkness at all. It is written.
His feathers are soft and his arms are comfortable to lay down and rest in. We can trust him.
When God gets us up and going, it’s not by stabbing us… it’s by *inspiring* us.
God works from the inside out, not the outside in.
God has incredible dreams for each of us… things He wants us to fulfil. Those dreams are written in the deepest part of our hearts. We were made for those dreams, so when we recognise them, it’s the best most incredible thing we can ever do in and with our lives. It gives us great joy.
Sometimes we have to shuck off wordly dreams and desires in order to be willing to listen to what God wants for us. I know for me this is the most amazing and personal connection with my Father, that what I want so deeply is what He wants for me to do.

And it involves getting off the couch. God inspiring me gives me the strength to look my adorable puppy dog eyes horse pal in the eyes when all he can think about is more food and taking his afternoon siesta, and say “Let’s get going! We’ve got a mission!” And we are both so much happier.

Thank you for your post, and your life being such an inspiration! Whenever I get a bit discouraged, God brings one of your posts to my attention, and I feel refreshed. <3
You are one of Gods messengers, bringing His love to the world!

    ………

PS- have you watched the movie, "The Gabby Douglas story", it's really good! I have two Christian magazine articles about the family's story, and that was God all the way there!
Just like yours was, is, and will be in the time to come.

Absolutely. The best thing you can do for a horse if you want to ensure that it won’t wind up in a bad place is to put quality training on it. The auctions are full of 20 year old broodmares that no one took the time to break out.

Very good point!! That pretty much says it all.

Just as we desire a relationship with our horses and within that relationship we must become their Alpha Mare, and they must learn to heed our commands and trust us, so God seeks a relationship with us. He provides guidance for our safety, through scripture, and a way to communicate with him through prayer. He longs for us to reach our potential and fulfill a purpose he designed specifically for us. Happy Valentine’s Day!!!
