Horse refusing to go into horse trailer, can you see what isn’t working?

Finally! A horse that won’t load! Ok, I know I have covered what control you should have to load your horse into the trailer. Here is a video of a horse that doesn’t want to load. Compare this horse to the earlier videos and see what is and isn’t working. The next segments will include going through the process of teaching this horse to choose to go onto the trailer.

My mom has a six-year-old gelding who is extremely stubborn about getting into the trailer. His evasion technique is to back up, and even rear up, and not go forward He has learned now that it works as he is so strong and pulls her back. He will go in some trailers but not others.

It is working that you can put the horse out of your space but the horse don`t know that it must go forward. is this right?

When our horses won’t load, they don’t like the restriction of the person standing to the side because they get confused as to what they are supposed to do. Our new mare, Beezie, has the best personality, but she won’t load. We have one person get on the trailer and hold the rope from inside. Another person will hold the lunge whip behind her and just tickle her back feet with it. We usually have to walk her in a circle to calm her down, the take her away and walk he straight toward the trailer so she isn’t crokked coming to it. Thaqt just makes it easier for her.

Since i am struggling to keep my boy in the trailer i am quite sad i cant watch the vid on my phone.
Mate is a good boy and goes on fluently, he stands for hrs, but as soon as you start closing, he gets nervous, and shoots out. He is called mr limbo, cause he manages to tilt his hind, shooting and the bar not worring to hurt his back.

oh and i am from germany, so our trailers are slightly different. Now I can watch the video and hope it will help me get new and better ideas next to working with a good trainer.

Have you found that the trailer makes a large differance too? My Dun It mare will jump into my trainers big slant load but hates my little 2 horse straight load. Wonder why?? LOL

I haven’t found a horse I couldn’t get to load yet, but you can’t use resistance to counteract resistance. It just doesn’t work. The horse has got to “want” to load. Trailer training is like picking up their feet. It takes a lot of working with your horse, not just expecting them to do it. I’ve seen trailer training videos where some trainers literately try to spook the horses with a plastic bag into the trailer, and I just laugh. Unfortunately I don’t think that Stacy is that type of a trainer. She’s got some good tips. Learn from them.
