Are you to busy to feel Peace?

Most of us have experienced the feeling of being crazy, busy and maybe even a little (ok, a lot) stressed but have you ever experienced Peace?

I have a magnet that hangs on my refrigerator that says, “Peace is not the absence of noise, trouble or real work. It is to be in the midst of those things and be calm in your heart.”

I have been on a personal quest for Peace for the last two years. One thing I have learned during that time is that although it is my goal to have Peace ‘in the midst of those things’ I have had to find Peace during purposeful  and planned quiet time. Quiet-Time now a days? Yep. If you want it, you will make it happen. Turn off the TV and most people will find and extra hour or more a day.

Speaking from my experience once I found Peace in quiet times it has is becoming easier to feel it “in the midst” because what I have learned is that Peace whispers….it doesn’t yell.

John 14:27  Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

    I got this from Guideposts this a.m.
    You can pray while you do this (though if you’re anxious when you start, you probably won’t think of it until after a few breaths, when your head starts to clear). Simple prayers work best:

    While inhaling While exhaling
    Come Holy Spirit… fill my heart
    Lord Jesus… grant me your peace
    Lord Jesus… I love you

    If you practice when you’re not in the throes of wild anxiety, it will be easier to pray this way when you are. But “breathing prayer” is a good addition to any regular prayer time. Anything that clears the head and calms the body frees us up to hear God better. And that’s what prayer is all about.

      Wow. Linda! This morning I was brewing up a follow up post about…. Breathing!!! How it can help calm the mind… It puts the focus on something other than the “anxiety inducing thoughts”. I love this prayer!! Thank you for sharing!!!

    Awe peace, something we all strive for but few of us aquire it. I have been bless with a journey in life where I have truely come to understand that inner peace. I discribe it as a stillness in ones soul when you live in the moment and you are blessed with that moment in time when all possessions and all earthly goods have no meaning or place. It is a time when a smile is caught for an instant and you can hold it for ever. It’s an inner strength of feeling safe when safety is not around you. It’s the touch of a calust hand shake that say you are a special person and I’m glad to know you, and it’s the heart gift a child gives you to hang on the fridge. That is peace to me it comes from within and is given out freely. It’s a gift from God that we too often do not accept, for drama and ecitement is far easier to take.

    That’s my ramble for the day I hope God blesses you all this coming week with just one moment of stillness in your soul.

    After growing up with horses, I had been away from them for many years only occasionally interacting with them for my daughter’s benefit, always with the intent of her gaining an understanding a horse’s general nature. A couple of years ago, I took my teenage daughter on a trail ride and the passion for horses blossomed in her! We left the barn with her negotiating how to get a horse of her own (we live in Atlanta). We started natural horsemanship lessons the same week and although she still does not have a horse of her own (still negotiating), we have continued our lessons each and every week with trail rides whenever possible.
    I did all this for my daughter but to my surprise, it has helped me unbelievably. Over the years, my life has become more and more stressful. I struggled to find peace and the only place it ever comes to me is when I’m with a horse. I think only of what I’m doing and of the horse. I’m in the moment. I’m always sad when it leaves me; sometimes as I’m walking away from my horse after putting her in the stall or pasture and sometimes it stays with me a little longer if I’ve had a really good lesson. Either way, it sustains me until the next time.

    You speak of a quest. I too am on quests and have been told, and need to remember, that it is not so much about the destination as it is the journey.

    Sweet!!! Establish good mind habits! It’s like practising the emergency dismount, lol. You do it deliberately when your horse is calm, so you can do it right when he bolts on you!
